1 20 times table

The whole set of tables from 1 to 20. The 12 × 12 grid covers the first twelve, and the table below carries it on through 13, 14 and the rest up to 20.

Tables 13 to 20

This picks up exactly where the 12 × 12 grid stops. Find your table down the left, then run across to the multiplier you want.

Reading the grid

Pick a number in the top row and a number down the side, then follow both until they meet. Order never changes the answer, so 6 × 13 and 13 × 6 land on the same 78. That halves what there is to learn: once you know one direction, you know the other.

The teens, without memorising them

Every table from 11 to 19 splits into a ten and some units. For 17 × 6, take 10 × 6 = 60 and 7 × 6 = 42, then add: 102. The 20 table is easier still, because 20 × 7 is 7 doubled with a zero on the end, giving 140.

Checking an answer

  • Anything multiplied by 5 ends in 0 or 5, and anything multiplied by 20 ends in 0.
  • Multiply by an even number and the answer is always even.
  • Along any row, each answer is one table-number bigger than the one before it.

Where to go next

If you only need the core set, the 1 to 12 times tables are the ones worth knowing cold. To go further out, the multiplication chart 1-30 extends the same layout, and the multiplication charts hub has the printable and blank versions.
